While many groups can be formed from centrally sourced information about SLAC staff, there are likely hundreds of groups (which may be groups of other groups) that may only be understood and used by a specific project of the lab. These types of ad-hoc groups will be curated by the local administrators themselves. The same Group Services infrastructure can be used for both institutional and ad-hoc access control use cases.
